BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

Welcome to Back to School night for 8C.   My name is Trish Gibbons and I’m your child’s guidance counselor.  I look forward to working with you and your child this year.  Below you will find an overview of areas that I can be of assistance in making your child’s middle school year both positive and successful.  

Team Meetings

• Attend weekly Team Meetings- 8C meeting times: Thursdays @ 8:35am
• Discuss concerns regarding individual students
• Communicate questions, information, and concerns between home and school
• Schedule parents to attend team meetings as needed

Counseling

• Provide individual counseling
• Provide small group counseling

Academics

• Provide consultation to both faculty and parents

Special Education/Section 504

• Attend IEP meetings and contribute to the development of the IEP
• Schedule and chair Section 504 meetings; develop Section 504 plans
• Classroom observations of individual students who are having special education evaluations

Transition to a High School Setting

• Classroom presentation of information to students regarding Burlington High School academic and other course requirements
• Schedule and meet with parents and students regarding planning a schedule for grade 9 at Burlington High School.
• Assist students who are interested in applying to Shawsheen Vocational Technical High School.

• Monitor and assist students who are applying to private schools regarding recommendations and the completion of applications.  Please understand that this process takes time and we ask you to please allow sufficient time for teacher recommendations and for guidance to process transcripts.
